A Fresh Perspective On Healing

I’ve had many intuitive hits to show up differently on social media, in my newsletter and on my blog. I haven’t posted anything on Instagram since October 2021. In that time I have been cocooning – soaking up as much information as possible while reaching new depths of my personal healing journey. I’m ready to share what I’ve uncovered over the last 6 months.

I have always considered myself to be a very spiritual person, but over the last few months I have really allowed myself to accept that. Actually, I’ve moved beyond acceptance into embodiment. When I am alone with myself, I am unafraid to be my 100% spiritual and woo-woo self, but I have shied away from sharing this part of myself with the world. One – for the fear of being judged. Two – for the fear that I lose credibility as a health practitioner.

I have an extensive professional education background in western medicine. Everything I learned to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy is rooted in evidence-based practice. That means everything I practice, all treatments I provide to patients should have research and evidence to back them up. I completely believe that research and evidence is important, but there comes a point when people max out on their returns from this type of treatment and are limited by the evidence available, and don’t get to benefit from the practitioner’s expertise. This is especially true in the realm of pelvic health when the things people are struggling with are very intimately linked between physical body, emotional body and spiritual body.

Practices like yoga, herbalism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and energy healing have roots that are thousands of years old and focus on whole body healing. There weren’t large randomized controlled trials to back up what they knew to be true. And those practices still stand today. They have stood the test of time. That is evidence.

My background in western evidence-based medicine laid a beautiful foundation for me. I understand how the body works on a systematic level. I can find weaknesses in the system and help heal them. But, just understanding the body on a physical and systematic level is not enough. I now know just how much our emotional body and energetic body play a role in disease manifestation in the physical body.

Our western medical system is great at keeping us alive in cases of acute injury or severe illness. But it is not good at providing for those of us with more chronic health conditions, autoimmune diseases, or “mystery conditions.” As a pelvic floor PT, I am frequently the last stitch effort for patients. I see them when their doctor has run every test, tried all the medications, and they still are not getting better. I’ve been there at that rock bottom myself and can empathize with others who experience the same things.

The western medicine system does not look at the whole person. Physicians can only skim the surface when they’re with you for a 10-minute appointment, rushing to the next person and just taking the easy way out of prescribing medications they didn’t even get a chance to tell you the side effects about. That is not informed consent, and that is not in your best interest.

This system failed me. It fails my patients. Finally, almost a full decade later, I found the solution to my true healing. I trudged through the confusing system so that you don’t have to. What is the answer? Finding the right health practitioner that spends ample amounts of time with you, understands how your physical conditions are linked to deeper emotional and energetic root causes, and provides you with a specific plan that puts YOU in the driver’s seat.
